I’m a rising sophomore studying Computer Science + Linguistics at Stanford University. I immigrated to the United States from Moscow, Russia when I was in the seventh grade. I barely spoke English then, which is what got me interested in the intersection of language and programming. In particular, I want to create software to benefit speech impaired people and speakers of other languages. This summer, I will be working as a Data Science + Web Development Intern on the Mayor of LA’s Data Team.

She is interested in combining design thinking and engineering practices as well as using sustainable & innovative manufacturing processes to create products. Next year during her master’s, she will be a teaching assistant in Stanford’s Product Realization Lab, helping students complete projects in the machine shop, wood shop, and prototyping lab.

Gloria Hyunjung Kwak is a Ph.D. student in the HKUST, studying Machine Learning with a full scholarship. She received the BSc Computer Science and Engineering (First Honours) from Korea University, Korea, in 2013 and MSc. Machine Learning from University College London in 2014. Before she started her Ph.D., she worked as a senior data scientist for Deloitte and LG. Her current research interest includes electronic health records and medical image analysis with machine learning approaches.
